From writer/director Shane Carruth (who made the almost perfect Primer). Not much is known about it. The info from imdb makes it sounds like an even trippier (and hopefully less dogmatic) Tree of Life.
A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.
For the most part Terrence Malick’s foray into the connectivity of mankind and the universe was on the groovy side. Carruth has the chops to make his new film just as intriguing. I challenge you to think differently after viewing the trailer below.
Upstream Color is premiering at Sundance and stars Carruth along side Andrew Sensenig, Brina Palencia, and Amy Siemetz. A wider release is excepted in March. Flydrs will be following this closely, so stay tuned for more.
